O Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) fortaleceu a parceria com a governadora Raquel Lyra (PSDB) ao indicar Maurício de Josué, vice-prefeito de Águas Belas, para o cargo de diretor-geral do ProRural (Programa Estadual de Apoio ao Pequeno Produtor Rural). A nomeação, publicada oficialmente, confere ao petista uma posição de destaque, com status de presidente. Maurício substitui Mychel Ferraz, indicado pelo deputado federal Coronel Meira (PL).
Maurício de Josué concorreu à Prefeitura do município no pleito deste ano, mas perdeu por 550 votos. A escolha de Maurício é vista como um movimento estratégico e reflete a influência do presidente estadual do PT, Doriel Barros, e do prefeito de Águas Belas, Luiz Aroldo, que apoiou Raquel Lyra no segundo turno das eleições de 2022.
